Secrets of Ullumia: Chapter 5 excerpt

Serene woke up with a pounding headache. "Not again. This is not something I want to get used to. " She didn't understand what was happening and she needed answers before it happened again. She could still feel the tingling in her body, but with how bad her head was aching, she was just trying to focus on getting the pain to stop. She took in a long, slow breath... paused; then slowly exhaled. Then she remembered hearing a voice. Was it her voice? Was someone in Enchantia Forest with her? Scrambling along the forest terrain, she was trying to remember if she heard it in her head, or if it was coming from the forest. She cautiously scanned her surroundings, but with the lights changing rapidly above, it was still so dark; she was never going to be able to see anyone.

"Hello? Is anyone there?" Silence..... She waited a while, but nothing happened. "Please, if someone is there, can you tell me what is happening to me? I am scared and I don't know what to do." There was again no answer. She laid back; tears flooded her eyes as she leaned against a tree. Suddenly she saw flashes of hues beaming through the trees, color after color; so recklessly. She wiped the tears from her eyes and tried to focus. The intense speed of color changes seemed to be screaming at her. She blinked more tears away and as her eyes cleared, she thought she saw a figure in the flaunting of lights. She sat up, hoping to better focus on whatever she though she saw through the kaleidoscope of colors, and really focused; there in the madness. Finally, a figure took shape and was advancing toward her. Serene wanted to back away, but felt paralyzed by curiosity The apparition stared to move towards her. In a voice so sweet and mesmerizing, the figure spoke, "No need to fear child, I have been waiting for you."
